Another old favorite. My Father and his sister. A million things to look at in this picture, the reflection in the glass, the flowers fading fast, the dirt and hard scrabble, from the faces to the clothes to a child's strong spirit. No Caramel Frappacino's here. What a shot.
My Father, a lance corporal in the Marine Corps and my Mother, who put Hollywood starlets to shame in San Clemente CA. during World War 2. The next day he was boarding a troop ship and heading west, straight out into the Pacific. His destination was what would be called the island of death, Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands chain. Their faces are a study; a mix of love, fear, anger and a touch of despair. He would return highly decorated, without 3 close high school friends and weighing approximately 120 pounds.
